Commercial vehicle owners in Telangana can now access the Parivahan (Vahan) portal for faster registrations and inter-state vehicle transfers.
The facility was launched on a pilot basis at the Khairatabad RTA Central Office on Monday. According to Transport Department officials, it will be extended in phases to all RTA offices across the state.
Until now, the Vahan portal was available only for private vehicles. Transport Department officials said the facility has now been expanded to cover lorries, buses, taxis, maxi cabs, auto-rickshaws, DCMs and other commercial vehicles, enabling owners to access a range of transport-related services online.
Officials added that vehicle data from all States has already been integrated into the Vahan portal, making inter-State services more seamless.According to Transport Department officials, buyers of commercial vehicles can now complete the registration process at authorised dealerships, similar to the existing system for private vehicles.
Officials said that since the Vahan portal was introduced for private vehicles in Hyderabad on March 23, around 3.5 lakh vehicles have been permanently registered at dealerships. The same facility has now been extended to commercial vehicles under the pilot project.
However, permanent registration will be granted only after the vehicle is physically inspected by RTA officials, they clarified.
Transport Department officials said the integration of commercial vehicles into the Vahan portal is expected to significantly reduce delays in inter-State vehicle transfers.
Earlier, transport operators had to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and wait for vehicle records to be transferred, a process that often took two to three months.
With vehicle data now available on the Vahan portal, officials said the transfer process is expected to become faster and more efficient.
The Vahan portal offers online services such as vehicle registration, ownership transfer, NOC issuance and other transport-related services, reducing the need for vehicle owners to visit RTA offices.
Transport Department officials said the pilot launched at Khairatabad will be used to fine-tune the system before it is rolled out to all RTA offices across Telangana in a phased manner.
