The Central Government has taken a significant decision to curb the misuse of official vehicles. Henceforth, an officer will not be allotted a second government vehicle upon assuming additional responsibilities. The government has clarified that there will be only one official car per officer. Additionally, the private use of vehicles belonging to public sector undertakings (PSUs) and autonomous bodies has also been prohibited.
This decision aims to prevent the misuse of government vehicles and reduce public expenditure. The Ministry of Finance has issued an order stating that no senior officer shall be provided with more than one official vehicle, even if they hold additional charge of another ministry, department, PSU, or autonomous body.
An Office Memorandum regarding this has been issued by the Department of Expenditure, instructing all ministries and departments to strictly adhere to this rule.
