A major road accident occurred near Pedda Amberpet on the outskirts of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. A speeding petrol tanker rammed into two cars traveling ahead of it. The impact was so severe that both cars were mangled. After the collision, the tanker—laden with petrol—lost control and overturned on the road. Fortunately, the occupants of the cars sustained only minor injuries.
Chaos and panic erupted at the scene immediately after the tanker overturned. A person was trapped inside the tanker’s cabin. Upon receiving news of the accident, police and fire brigade teams rushed to the site. Rescue teams, assisted by locals, launched an operation to free the trapped individual. After a strenuous effort, the person was extricated from the cabin; he had sustained severe leg injuries.
Following the overturn, petrol began leaking from the tanker. Authorities were alarmed to see fuel flowing onto the road, as even a tiny spark could have triggered a massive explosion. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, officials declared a ‘high alert’ for the entire area. Fire tenders are keeping a close watch on the situation. The police cordoned off the area and implemented stringent security measures.
Traffic on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad National Highway came to a complete standstill due to this horrific accident. Within moments, kilometers-long queues of vehicles formed on the highway. Commuters appeared distressed as they remained stuck in the humid weather, with the sound of horns echoing all around. Police stepped in to manage the traffic jam; they halted traffic on the national highway and diverted all vehicles onto the service road.
