Hyderabad: Preliminary investigations have revealed that the man accused of killing six members of a family aborted his suicide attempt at the last moment after watching a train closing in on the tracks.
More than 48 hours after the gruesome killings, the prime accused, Rajkumar Parvathi, 29, remains at large despite an extensive police manhunt.
Police sources said after killing six members of a family in Shabad, Rajkumar Parvathi reportedly stood on railway tracks waiting for an oncoming train. However, at the last moment he jumped to safety and fled.
Investigators have found evidence suggesting the massacre was meticulously planned.
Police have increased the number of search teams and are examining CCTV footage from multiple locations to trace his movements.
Police said Rajkumar was last spotted near Thimmapur railway station in Rangareddy district. CCTV footage reportedly shows him standing on the railway tracks as a train approached.
However, moments before the train reached him, he stepped away from the tracks and fled. The footage has become a crucial piece of evidence in reconstructing the accused’s movements after the murders.
Investigators believe the six murders were not impulsive but carried out after careful planning.
According to the probe, Rajkumar deliberately rented a self-drive car from Shadnagar instead of using his own vehicle to avoid detection and facilitate his escape. Police also suspect he had arranged the murder weapon well in advance.
The knife used in the killings reportedly showed signs of rust, indicating that it was either an old weapon or had been purchased earlier and stored before the crime.
Police investigations have revealed that the accused allegedly used four mobile phones and 16 SIM cards.
Officials said he switched off his last active phone around 11.50 p.m. on the night of the murders. Since then, none of the phones or SIM cards has been active, making it difficult for investigators to track him electronically.
Police said the accused drove through isolated stretches of Nandigama, Kothur and Shabad mandals until around 6 a.m. on Saturday before his rented car ran out of fuel near Thimmapur railway station.
After abandoning the vehicle, he is believed to have escaped towards the nearby national highway. Police, assisted by the Government Railway Police (GRP), examined CCTV footage from several railway stations, though surveillance cameras at Falaknuma station were found to be non-functional.
Based on information that the accused had little money and had previously spent time in Srisailam, police also searched routes towards Srisailam and Bengaluru. Search teams are checking hotels, lodges, bus stations and railway stations along the Hyderabad–Bengaluru corridor.
