The investigation into trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy has taken a fresh turn after police reportedly recovered handwritten love letters from his room, leading them to another woman allegedly linked to him.
Police have also recorded the statement of a woman whom he allegedly met on Instagram and proposed marriage to.
Officials have sought seven-day custody of the accused to probe digital evidence, financial transactions and other key aspects of the case.
The accused, who was arrested following a complaint by a trainee woman IPS officer alleging sexual harassment, is currently in judicial remand.
His bail petition is scheduled to come up for hearing before the Upparpally court on Monday afternoon, while the police custody petition is likely to be heard on Tuesday.Police have already collected several pieces of evidence as part of the investigation. Uday Krishna Reddy’s mobile phone and laptop have been seized and sent for forensic examination.
Investigators have also recorded statements from two additional witnesses and are examining his financial transactions to determine whether they are linked to the case.
The statement of another woman, whom the accused allegedly met through Instagram and later proposed marriage to, has also been recorded.
The investigation widened after police conducted searches at Uday Krishna Reddy’s room in Ashok Nagar. During the search, investigators reportedly recovered two handwritten love letters along with his laptop and mobile phone.
Based on the names mentioned in the letters, police traced another woman from Andhra Pradesh who is believed to have shared a close relationship with the trainee IPS officer.
She later moved to Hyderabad and worked for a private company before allegedly resigning earlier this year on Uday Krishna Reddy’s advice to join an IAS coaching institute in Ashok Nagar.
Police are also looking into claims that the accused allegedly proposed a live-in relationship, which the woman reportedly declined as her legal divorce had not been finalised.
Investigators believe the woman met the trainee IPS officer, who filed the complaint, in February this year. During their interaction, the complainant allegedly shared that Uday Krishna Reddy had assaulted her and subjected her to disturbing behaviour. Police suspect the woman subsequently distanced herself from the accused.
Police have reportedly questioned around 20 witnesses during the investigation. Investigators have also gathered evidence supporting the allegation that the accused forcibly entered the complainant’s room and snatched her mobile phone.
Officials are further examining allegations that some trainees experienced distress due to Uday Krishna Reddy’s alleged aggressive behaviour during training.
With the investigation expanding, police have sought seven-day custody of the accused to question him further and confront him with the digital and documentary evidence collected so far.
While his bail petition will be heard by the Upparpally court on Monday, the police custody petition is expected to come up for hearing on Tuesday.
