Delhi: In view of the protest proposed by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on October 10, the Delhi Police has prepared to tighten security arrangements. The police have requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to keep 57 metro stations closed from 9 PM on Friday until Saturday. The police apprehend that during the protest, crowds might move towards sensitive areas, posing a risk to law and order.
In the letter, Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport Range) Rajnish Gupta has requested the DMRC to keep these stations closed. According to the letter written on Thursday, the frequency of metro trains passing through these stations may also be reduced on October 10, depending on the situation. This proposal has been made in light of the CJP’s protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar.
The 57 metro stations that the Delhi Police has requested to be closed include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, INA, Hauz Khas, Azadpur, Jamia Millia Islamia, Shaheen Bagh, Welcome, and Rohini West, among others.
The CJP has called for a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Kumar faces allegations of manipulating the electoral roll under the guise of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Additionally, he is accused of sidelining two of his colleagues regarding changes made to Form-6, a crucial document used for voter registration. However, the request regarding the closure of metro stations and the reduction of train frequency has been made by the police. The final arrangement will be decided in accordance with the decision of the DMRC and the concerned officials.
