Hyderabad: Telangana government has decided to provide free electricity for Ganesh pandals during the festivities.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced during a high-level review meeting on Ganesh festival arrangements.
With the festival approaching, the government has ordered tighter traffic and security measures, medical facilities, and safety arrangements at immersion points across Hyderabad
The minister directed officials from the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates to focus on traffic management and security during the celebrations.
He asked officials to identify potential problems in advance based on previous years’ experience and take corrective measures before the festival begins. Officials were also told to remain alert until the completion of all idol immersion activities.
Detailed plans should be prepared for traffic diversions and parking, while officials were asked to meet local Ganesh festival committees and resolve their concerns.
Authorities have been directed to ensure sanitation and medical facilities at Ganesh pandals and other key locations.
Prabhakar also ordered officials to keep ambulances, trained swimmers and lifeboats ready at immersion points to deal with emergencies.
District collectors have been asked to personally monitor the arrangements on the ground.
Govt pushes eco-friendly celebrations
The minister appealed to organisers to promote clay Ganesh idols and adopt environmentally friendly practices.
He also asked the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti to distribute saplings among devotees and encourage the use of handloom scarves during the celebrations.
DGP CV Anand said DJ systems should not be allowed during the festivities.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan said special funds had been allocated for the Ganesh celebrations and related arrangements.
