A birthday celebration in Telangana turned deadly on Thursday (January 7), when a speeding car crashed into a roadside tree near Mirzaguda in Chevella, killing four students and injuring one student. The incident occurred in Mokila around 1:30 am, the police told PTI news agency.
The victims, four of whom were BBA students and another an engineering student, included the young man whose birthday they had just gathered to celebrate.
It happened when the group was returning from a friend’s birthday party. According to the preliminary investigation, overspeeding was the cause of the accident.
“Five students aged 18 to 21 were in the vehicle travelling at a high speed. The driver lost control of the car and hit a tree, resulting in the death of four,” an official told PTI news agency.
“Sumit, Nikhil, Rohit and Surya died. Nakshatra survived with injuries. Except for Rohit, the deceased were BBA students at ICFAI Business School (IBS). Sumit was driving, and it was his birthday,” Mokila Inspector Veera Babu told TOI.
The impact was so severe that the car split in two, police said, adding a female student survived the crash and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The bodies of the students have been sent for postmortem to Chevella Government Hospital. Moreover, the Mokila police have started an investigation.
In another accident, a Zepto delivery partner lost control of his two-wheeler and was killed when a private bus ran over him in Hyderabad. The incident took place on January 5 on the Tolichowki–Mehdipatnam road near Mehdipatnam.
The incident was caught on CCTV, showing the tragic accident in which the victim, Abhishek, was riding a two-wheeler when he lost control of his vehicle and fell onto the road.
The police are conducting an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events.
